Where things stand
The site generates no revenue. It carries no advertising, publishes no sponsored content, has no active affiliate agreements, and receives no payment from the developers of the apps or the manufacturers of the devices named here.
Every external link on these pages points to a developer's official site, to an app store or to an institutional source, and none of them generates any payment.
This page exists anyway, and in full, for two reasons: because the situation may change, and because rules should be written before there is a financial interest in reading them loosely.
If we switch on affiliate links
An affiliate arrangement is one in which a site receives a commission when a reader buys a product through a tracked link. It is a legitimate and widespread model; it becomes a problem when it is undeclared or when it shapes the content.
The rules we will apply:
Sponsored content
If we publish content commissioned or paid for by a third party, it will be identified as such in the title, in the standfirst and in the body of the page, it will be excluded from the comparison tables, and it will not carry an editorial byline. Sponsored content will never appear in a position that makes it look like an independent assessment.
We do not accept, and will not accept, sponsorship from anyone offering access to television content without holding the rights to it.
Review products
We have so far received no device or software licence for review, and the editorial team has no relationship with the developers of the apps named here. Should that change, it will be declared on the page concerned, stating who supplied the item and whether it was returned. A product received free is treated no differently from one bought.
Why we are writing this now
A site that writes about products has, sooner or later, a financial incentive to write well of them. When the rules are written determines how honest they are: written beforehand, they are a constraint; written afterwards, they are a justification.
